AOC, Tlaib Propose Amendment To End ‘Opportunity Zones’ In US Cities

Opportunity zones

While President Trump is trying to Make America Great Again, Two Progressive Democrats are trying to destroy the hard work the President has done for low-income communities through opportunity zones. Have you looked at Skid Row lately? It’s gotten worse. What about Detroit? St. Louis? Or maybe Chicago? We all know Seattle and Portland have been taken over by anarchists. Both Washington State and Oregon have fallen. Who’s going to save them? Not the Democrats. They have allowed Anarchist to DESTROY the inner-cities. The very same inner-cities the poorest of Americans live. Democrats do not care about anyone except for themselves.

Opportunity Zones

The Opportunity Zone Program is a designation and investment program created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017

The program allows for certain investments in lower-income areas to have tax advantages. President Trump pushed Opportunity Zones to help African American communities that have been left behind by Democrats. The program has helped millions of African American, Latino, Asian, and White Americans get back on their feet. Democrats are now pushing to defund and get rid of said program. Democrats DO NOT CARE about the less fortunate unless it’s election day.

Progressive Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) this week proposed an amendment that would prevent the IRS from using funds to administer or enforce the “opportunity zone” program created by President Trump’s 2017 tax-cut law.

The lawmakers are proposing that their amendment be added to an appropriations bill that includes funding for the Treasury Department and IRS. The House Rules Committee is scheduled to meet Monday to determine which amendments proposed by lawmakers will be made in order.

Under the opportunity zone program, investors can receive capital gains tax breaks if they make investments in designated economically-distressed areas.

The Hill

The proposed bill by Rep. Talib would hurt low-income families. Why would any Democrat want to destroy low-income communities? They have done it for the last 60 years.

Opportunity Zones

Democrats claim they are the voice of the working man, and the less fortunate. However, looking at recent history, Democrats have destroyed poor communities with Gentrification and social programs. They are raising taxes in the inner-cities to make way for new public parks, bike lanes, public transportation, and multi-million dollar libraries. Who pays for this? The taxpayers through their property taxes. How many can low-income families afford another 200 or even 300 extra at the end of the year? Not many.

Opportunity Zones

Tlaib introduced a bill in November to repeal the opportunity zone program. She said at the time that the program “fails to drive real benefits to low-income communities, instead often rewarding President Trump’s donors.”

Other Democratic lawmakers have offered bills that wouldn’t eliminate the program but would increase guardrails and reporting requirements.

Republicans back increasing reporting requirements about investments in opportunity zones, and continue to be supportive of the program.

Rep. Kevin Brady (Texas), the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee, criticized the amendment proposed by Ocasio-Cortez and Tlaib in a tweet Friday, arguing that the amendment would hurt poor communities.

The next time one of your Democratic family or friends try to convince you of how racist and hateful Republicans are sure to let them know about the dangers of Gentrification. 9 times out of 10 they live in one and reap the benefits of pushing out the less fortunate.
