As this writer watched New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Democrat, drone on & on* about the tri-state agreement New York entered into with New Jersey and Connecticut, during his press conference on Monday, I noted that all three states are run by Democrats.
Lacking respect for the Bill of Rights is a hallmark of Democrat politicians because it gets in the way of their power. These three governors suspended citizens’ Freedom of Assembly to get together in groups larger than 50. This immediately led me to a number of thoughts:
Are the hardest hit jurisdictions controlled by Dems or GOP? Democrats.
Are the governors closing down bars, restaurants, schools, etc. and suspending Freedom of Assembly Dems or GOP? Mostly Democrats.
If there is any difference, does partisanship account for this?
If partisanship doesn’t account for this, what does? Fear of the unknown? Fear that, if they take COVID-19 too lightly and it turns out to have a high sickness/death rate, they political careers will be over?
SUSPENDING FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY: PARTISANSHIP OR COINCIDENCE?
As of Monday morning, only Democrat-run jurisdictions had clamped down on citizens’ Freedom of Assembly (AKA Association) and/or shut down businesses, putting tens of thousands out of work AND significantly harming the economy.
Then the Republican Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, closed bars, restaurants & theaters, and instituted an 8PM to 5AM curfew effective March 17th. He did not limit the number of people in a group, however. Does he respect our constitutional Freedom of Assembly? His state has had no deaths and only 42 patients either suffering from COVID-19 or testing positive (this is NOT the same thing).
WASHINGTON STATE IS HARDEST HIT
With a population of only 7.5 Million, Washington State has the highest number of deaths so far, 55. Of these deaths, 29 were residents of Kirkland Life Care Center* outside Seattle, or were directly linked to the center which cares for the elderly as well as others with significant health problems.
SeaTac Airport, just south of downtown Seattle, is a major hub for those traveling to & from Asia, with direct flights to & from many Chinese cities, including Wuhan.
Governor Jay Inslee, Democrat, shut down restaurants, bars, entertainment venues and unconstitutionally prohibited groups of 50 from assembling.
SUSPENDING FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY: CALIFORNIA
California’s airports are also main thoroughfares for those traveling to and from China, the epicenter and creator of the coronavirus. San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose airports offer direct flights to and from China.
With about 400 people testing positive for COVID-19, (NOTE: this does NOT mean these people are sick) and eleven deaths as of Tuesday morning, the Bay Area is taking measures to keep people away from each other.
Six counties, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Marin, Alameda and Contra Costa, all Democrat-run in a state that has loooooong been Democrat-run, joined together to shut down bars, restaurants, schools, etc. And 6.7 Million citizens have been commanded to stay in their homes.
Santa Clara, which had it’s first COVID-19 case on January 24th when a man flew back from Wuhan, now has 114 and no deaths.
The ratio of tested people in California, 59,000, to those with “positive” results, is less than .007 percent. Put another way: this is statistically insignificant. If these figures were voters voting for a certain candidate, Big Media would not bother to even mention the results.
WITH ONE DEATH, 39 POSITIVE TESTS, OREGON GOVERNOR SUSPENDING FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY
On Monday Kate Brown, Oregon’s Democrat governor, announced she was closing bars & restaurants, and illegally prohibiting public gatherings of more than 25 people. This writer, an Oregonian who travels a lot to Asia, [but not this year ;<)] speculates that Oregon’s cases are low due mainly to the fact that there are no direct flights from the Portland airport to China. Thus, there are fewer travelers from China to Oregon’s major metro area, Portland.
OHIO POSTPONED TUESDAY’S ELECTION, ARIZONA, ILLINOIS, FLORIDA DID NOT
Florida, Arizona and Illinois held their primary elections as scheduled. Ohio did not.
Governor Mike DeWine, Republican, postponed elections until June. He had previously closed bars, restaurants and schools. DeWine did not suspend Freedom of Assembly but offered this advice to Ohioans instead:
“The last thing that any of us want is for a funeral or a wedding to be the cause of someone else dying.”
SUSPENDING FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY NATIONWIDE
During Monday’s presser Cuomo also looked into the cameras and said Trump should order closure of restaurants, bars, schools, et al and wipe out the First Amendment NATIONWIDE. Nationwide. Think about that for a minute. Within seconds of the president’s order Cuomo, who has been highly critical of everything Trump does, would scream:
“Dictator!” “Monarch!” “King!”
I am drawing no conclusions from these facts. I will leave that up to the readers. These closures are raising unemployment significantly and panicking the stock market. Though Wall Street’s numbers are still significantly higher than the numbers Trump “inherited,” there is reason for concern.
If this scare, driven by politicians & Big Media, continues into May, we could see a recession. Given all the other improvements under the Trump Administration, could Trump still win re-election if both employment and stock market numbers tank?

*Cuomo has held daily press conference each morning for over a week. Each lasts over an hour, with only him speaking. He does not bring out medical expects to enlighten the public.
**The majority of these deaths were in their 80s and 90s. Although not confirmed, this writer believes that someone who had recently been in China or a family member of such traveler visited the care center or worked there. Probably just one person brought the COVID-19 into the facility and the residents’ immune systems were so weak they could not fight it off.
