When “public servants” refuse to work with you, refuse to live near you, refuse to send his/her kids to your kids’ school, refuse to shop in the same stores you do, THAT is when you learn that the Deep State is real.
More than half of the Bureau of Land Management’s Washington, D.C. staff quit their jobs after being told they would be transferred to Colorado and other western states to be closer to the lands they manage, and closer to people who understand the land better than they do.
Internal numbers from the Interior Department show 69 employees have left the agency rather than accept their new assignments to the beautiful western states. An additional 18 had previously left when these plans were first announced, but before they could be reassigned.
ARROGANT BUREAUCRATS: DRAINING THE DC SWAMP
Those 87 employees* outnumber the 80 who have agreed to the move. That opens 87 jobs that will be filled with local citizens who love & understand the lands in their regions.
The BLM move dwindles the DC staff, leaving just 61 in the nation’s capital.** The move is part of a Trump Administration initiative to place regulatory agencies closer to the people they are supposed to serve. Most of America’s federal lands are in the western mountains and deserts.
Even Liberals who have howled over the move, have publicly admitted regulatory positions are now less likely to be filled by (arrogant) DC bureaucrats and more likely to be filled by people with direct ties to those affected by regulations AND to the land they are managing.
ARROGANT BUREAUCRATS WORRY ABOUT THEIR CAREERS
Former “top-level” BLM Mandarin Steve Ellis bemoaned the agency’s move, complaining it “critically weakens the agency’s ability for career leadership and their staff to collaborate across disciplines and work closely with other key agencies.” THAT is disingenuous as Mr. Ellis is no doubt already using tele-conferencing, phone calling, emailing, online chatting, FedExing and various other forms of modern communication. Typewriter and snail mail? Not likely.
“It will weaken the agency by marginalizing leadership in a relatively small western community,” he added, overlooking the fact that people who live on the land, know the land better than any DC bureaucrat. THAT about says it all about the Deep State’s attitude, doesn’t it?***
ARROGANT BUREAUCRATS: USDA SWAMP CREATURES BALKED AT MOVE TO AMERICA’S BREADBASKET
Last summer the Trump Administration announced that 550 positions at US Department of Agriculture’s headquarters in DC would be moving to the Midwest. The move has not yet been completed because these Deep State creatures have tried every trick to stall.
Arrogant bureaucrats have enlisted the aid of Democrat senators to prevent the executive branch from making decisions THAT ARE WELL WITHIN IT’S AUTHORITY.
USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICE IN BIG CITY? REALLY?
In the 1990s the USDA Rural Development office was in a 10-story building in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon. Oregon is replete with ALL KINDS of farms, orchards, vineyards, nurseries, tree farms, ranches, etc. who grow & produce way too many products to name here. NOT one of these producers can be found in downtown Portland.+
The great majority of Oregon’s producers are found at least 150 miles away from Portland. Indeed, most rural areas are 200–300 miles from Portland. Why was the so-called “Rural Development” office in a major metropolitan city? Was that because the arrogant bureaucrats refused to “lower” themselves to live in the communities that house the very Americans THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HELPING.++
The American Midwest is the bread basket of the United States, if not the world. THE PEOPLE BORN AND RAISED THERE KNOW FAR MORE ABOUT CORN, WHEAT, BEEF, APPLES, ET AL THAN THE WHITE-COLLAR PAPER-PUSHERS IN DC.
Any USDA employee who doesn’t know what “Knee High By The Fourth Of July” means should be fired.+++
Drain The Swamp, President Trump! Move departments and agencies to where Normal Americans live.

*This writer is aware that some employees can’t move for family reasons. However, the attitude of too many Federal employees is such that they just can’t see themselves rubbing elbows with their “inferiors.” After all, Americans who live in rural areas are not as sophisticated as DC Mandarins. Poppycock!
**Keep in mind that most, if not all, of these Mandarins will transfer to other federal departments in DC, or obtain similar jobs in state & local governments on the east coast. Their “skills” are likely not needed/wanted in the private sector.
*** The private sector often transfers employees out of town or out of state. At that time each employee must make a choice: move with the company and enjoy life in a new part of America, or remain where they are and find a new job. Changes are a normal part of life, NOT a catastrophe. Why should taxpayers guarantee federal employees the job they want in the town they want?
+This writer checked on the USDA website and was delighted to discover that the USDA’s “rural development” office is no longer in downtown Portland. They are now in small towns in rural areas of Oregon, where they should always have been. This move was made by a previous administration.
++Trump should take a long look at each and every DC department’s work and move the tasks closer to the areas and people they are supposed to be taking care of. After moving the USDA and BLM, Mr. President, take a hard look at the Department of the Interior’s Headquarters; because, well, America’s INTERIOR is NOT in Washington DC.
+++“Knee High By The Fourth Of July” is a popular American agricultural saying that has been cited in print since at least 1854. If a corn crop has reached the height of a man’s knee by Independence Day, then it is was growing well, and should produce a bountiful harvest.
