In his first Oval Office address, President Trump provided facts to back up the need to build the wall at our southern border. The Democrat response offered well-worn talking points with no facts.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stood in front of a row of our Stars & Stripes as they gave the Democrat response. It is hard to describe their appearance. They were apparently trying so hard to look serious that they had the look of morticians preparing the dead for burial.*
BUILD THE WALL: TRUMP OFFERED FACTS, CHANCY OFFERED NOTHING
Even the “fact-checking” groups run by Liberals could find few mistakes in Trump’s explanation of why America needs a border wall.
“In the last two years, ICE officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with criminal records including those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes and 4,000 violent killings. Over the years, thousands of Americans have been brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country.”
Using the term “migrant” instead of “immigrant,” Trump said “Last month (December 2018), 20,000 migrant children were illegally brought into the USA**, a dramatic increase.”
Trump went on to explain “Women and Children are the biggest victims, by far, of our broken immigration system.”
BUILD THE WALL: LOOKING OUT FOR AMERICANS
“All Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal migration. It strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages.”
“Unlawful migration is fueled by our very strong economy.”
“Every week, 300 of our citizens are killed by heroin alone, 90 percent of which floods across from our southern border.”
“Our Southern border is a pipeline for vast quantities of illegal drugs. My administration has presented Congress with a detailed proposal to secure the border and stop the criminal gangs, drug smugglers and human traffickers. It’s a tremendous problem.”
“The wall will also be paid for, indirectly, by the great new trade deal we have made with Mexico.”
BUILD THE WALL: BORDER AGENTS ARE BEGGING FOR IT
“Law enforcement professionals have requested $5.7 billion for a physical barrier. At the request of Democrats it will be a steel barrier rather than a concrete wall. This barrier is absolutely critical to border security.”
“This is a choice between right and wrong, justice and injustice. This is about whether we fulfill our sacred duty*** to the American citizens we serve,“ the president declared.
“There is a growing humanitarian and security crisis at our Southern border.”
The much anticipated “declaration of national emergency” never came.

*This writer was so taken aback by Pelosi and Schumer’s appearance that I laughed until I was bawling. Normally quite animated, these two were stiff as boards throughout their speeches.
**Earlier Tuesday, VP Mike Pence stated that 60,000 people are now attempting to enter the country each month. Around 10,000 were deemed inadmissible, which means they approached a legal port of entry and were turned away.
