Some political pundits believe that the Democrats and Mainstream Media have already tried, and failed, with their 2018 “October Surprise.” For the most pivotal mid-term election year since 1994, the they hired three women with histories of mental health problems to destroy the most qualified Supreme Court nominee in decades. Of course, I am referring to Christine Blasey Ford’s perjury before the Senate Judiciary Committee’s confirmation hearing in September, as well as the other two women whose claims were even more laughable.
WHAT IS AN “OCTOBER SURPRISE?”
October Surprise is a political term that was first coined in the 1980s. It refers to Democrats and/or Mainstream Media releasing negative information, usually fictional, about the GOP candidate. This “information” is held until just weeks or days before election day so the targeted candidate does not have time to respond and repair any damage. The idea behind it is to sway voters to vote for the Dem candidate and against the GOP candidate.
So far, the October Surprise has mostly been used in presidential elections, and ONLY against Republicans. With the timing of Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing just weeks before the mid-terms and knowing that a confirmation defeat would hurt Republican candidates, Dems & MSM used this tactic on Trump’s Supreme Court nominee. But, they added a new twist this time: they sent hordes of angry protesters to harass & stalk & threaten & intimidate GOP senators, their families & staffs, as well as Kavanaugh and his family.
The Dems & Mainstream Media failed with Justice Kavanaugh, but they are likely to continue using this dirty tactic. And they will get more hysterical and more violent. There will probably be few normal Americans who believe the absurd allegations. Nevertheless, the fake news may succeed in getting someone assassinated, like they tried to do to US Rep. Steve Scalise R-(LA) and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) last year.
George W./Kerry Race in 2004
In September 2004 the CBS show “60 Minutes,” with Liberal Icon Dan Rather, aired a segment allegedly showing how Bush 43 had used Bush 41’s connections, & subterfuge, to avoid being sent to Vietnam. They showed (on air) a letter they claimed was typed in 1968 proving this allegation.
This would have been especially damning for Bush 43 because he and John Kerry were both young men at the time the U.S. was fight in Vietnam. And Kerry was running on the fiction that he was a Vietnam War hero. Of course, his FOUR months in Vietnam did NOT make him a hero, but the media claimed he was. Indeed, Kerry literally marched onto the Democratic convention stage, saluted the audience and stated “reporting for duty.”
The “60 Minutes” fiction quickly fell flat when numerous TV viewers recognized that this letter had been typed on a typewriter that did not exist in 1968. Ha! They were so desperate to get Kerry elected that they didn’t realize Americans are smarter than them. With CBS’s resources, one would think they could have found a 1968 typewriter with which to type the letter. Had they actually waited until late October to air this fake news, it might have cost George W. re-election.
CBS fired Rather and his producer, but they were just the scapegoats. Many CBS employees were involved in creating this faux story out of whole cloth, including CBS executives, to defeat George W.
George W./Al Gore in 2000
Bush had long been upfront about overcoming alcoholism with the help of Jesus. During the summer of 2000 the Dems dug up a 1976 drunk driving citation. They sat on this information until just days before the election, allowing no time for the Bush campaign to respond.
Political strategists believe this last-minute news cost Bush five states, and played into the Democrats’ pre-arranged plans to challenge any state where voting was close. [With voting close in Florida, the Gore campaign launched into a five-week TV circus & legal fight desperately trying to prove Al won, claiming that “hanging chads” were partisan in favor of Bush.]
Bush/Dukakis Race in 1988
When V.P. George H. W. Bush was running for president at the end of Reagan’s second term, the Dems released laughable allegations: V.P. Bush had flown to Paris in October 1980 to personally seal a deal to prevent the 52 Iran hostages (created due to Jimmy Carter’s foreign policy weakness) from being released until AFTER the 1980 election.
The media created this story, probably with help from Dems, and never provided any proof that Bush had even been out of the country at that time, much less in Paris.
WITH MANY CLOSE SENATE RACES,
WHO WILL BE THEIR NEXT TARGET(S)?
Will the Dems or MSM create a sex scandal about GOP Senate candidates Josh Hawley (MO), Dean Heller (NV), Rick Scott (FL), Mike Braun (IN), Matt Rosendale (MT), Kevin Cramer (ND) and/or Patrick Morrisey (WV)? After all, they all APPEAR TO BE “white men” enjoying the illusion of “white privilege.” [There has been no DNA exams done on these candidates, so the public doesn’t know whether or not they have “person of color” bloodlines. If the Dems have their way, DNA tests on all GOP candidates will be their next demand.]
Rapists? Racists? Sexists? These allegations sure perk up voters’ ears, but Democrats and Liberals have overused them these last three years. Moreover, how would they deal with GOP candidates Marsha Blackburn (TN) and Martha McSally (AZ)? Even though they are “white,” they are women, after all.
And how would they deal with Senator Ted Cruz (TX) in his bid for re-election? Yes, he is a man, but he also belongs to that vaunted group Dems refer to as “people of color.” Cruz’s father is a legal immigrant, being born and raised in Cuba. Could the Dems possibly get away with calling Ted “anti-immigrant.” OOPS! They already have. Now all they need to do is accuse Ted of something more heinous!
ADVICE TO DEMS AND MAINSTREAM MEDIA
Since you cannot win in the arena of ideas because you haven’t had a new policy idea in 20+ years, I suggest the following:
Scream “anti-immigrant.” Scream “homophobe.” Scream “Islamophobe.” These accusations have not been heard in the last few weeks. With 10 GOP Senate candidates in close races, you might succeed in getting all 10 elected.
